A human’s favourite stuffed animal is one of the most precious pieces of fabric they’ll ever own. On the other hand, we started to treat our clothes more and more like disposable products, ever since the sudden emergence of the fast fashion industry. Due to extremely low pricing, it’s nearly impossible not to overconsume these days, which as a result of this overconsumption, creates tons of unused and forgotten items in the back of people’s wardrobes. By turning the fabric of clothing people are unaware of having, into stuffed animals, the ghosts in people’s closets become visible and apparent. Every creature got inspired by the properties of its original state and has its own story of neglect.
“The ghost in your closet” is a non-profit movement that wants to raise awareness about consumer behaviour in the fast fashion industry.
By collectively making stuffed animals out of people’s bad buys in the form of a workshop, people come to realize the possibilities of pre-existing items and are triggered to start a conversation about their behaviour. By shaping unused clothing into a new, easy-to-love item, and telling their personal stories, the neglected fabric finds a new destination, and this way gets the love it always deserved.
